    Restaurant roundup: Animales gets a permanent home, Pourhouse abruptly closes

    Animales Barbecue Co. and its sister business Animales Burger Co. have found a permanent home.

    Zoom in: The popular food truck will move into the former Royal Foundry Distillery in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis, with enough space to seat 300 people inside and an additional 200 on the patio.


    đź’° Employees of MayDay Cafe , the long-running Powderhorn cafe and bakery that went up for sale last year, officially announced this week they want to purchase the restaurant to operate it as a worker-owned cooperative.

    • The group aims to raise $250,000 to close on the purchase and begin paying the mortgage, according to their fundraising page .

    🍕 Ouro Pizzaria , the Brazilian pizza spot in Eat Street Crossing operated by the group behind Bebe Zito, will close on Friday, August 9 — or until supplies run out, per their social media .

    🥦 The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum just debuted a new café. Rootstock serves "plant-forward, meat-supported" breakfast and lunch dishes, including meals with ingredients sourced from the University of Minnesota.

    🪩 The Pourhouse nightclub in downtown Minneapolis abruptly shut down late last month after 12 years.

    • The group, which previously operated additional locations in Uptown and Dinkytown, didn't give a reason for the closure.
    • However, according to Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal , a real estate group plans to redevelop the building.
