Victim Identified in Kearney Trail Collission
The driver / victim has been identified as Ronald D. Ayers, age 72, of Kearney, NE. Next of kin have been notified. An autopsy has been ordered by the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office. The incident involved a Union Pacific Rail Road train car and a 2014 Dodge van. The section of highway was closed for approximately 4 hours during the investigation.

Juveniles cited for stealing golf cart
Kearney, Neb. — Juveniles were cited after Kearney Police said they stole a golf cart from a local golf course over the weekend. Lt. Derek Luke said three juveniles stole a golf cart from Meadowlark Hills Golf Course, 3300 30th Ave., over the weekend. He added it was recovered by KPD on Monday.

Earlier this week, the Nebraska City City Council approved a change order extending the Kreifels Hills Subdivision's substantial completion date from August 1st to September 1st, and the final completion from September 1st to the 30th. Nebraska offers 2026 wide receiver
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top player in the class of 2026. Xavier McDonald is a four-star wide receiver from Morton High School in Morton, MS. Last season, as a sophomore, he appeared in 11 varsity football games. McDonald made 56 receptions for 1,166 yards and 16 touchdowns. The wideout has been a popular name on the recruiting trail. Nebraska is the 15th scholarship offer, with McDonald already holding offers from Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The SEC appears to be a front-runner for his commitment. According to On3’s Recruitment Prediction Machine, Auburn is the early leader. The Huskers do not hold any commitments to the class of 2026 but have extended numerous offers in the past week. Madison man sentenced for involvement in fentanyl distribution conspiracy
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Madison man was sentenced Wednesday for his involvement in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. District Court Judge Brian Buescher sentenced Jason Penalbert, 37, to more than 4 years imprisonment for conspiring to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. Once Penalbert is released from prison, he will begin a two-year term of supervised release.
