The Smith Mountain Lake Association has announced its latest results of the SML Water Quality Monitoring program. Water quality at Smith Mountain Lake continues to be excellent. This is according to the analysis of water samples most recently collected during the week of June 30 to July 6 by a group of 53 citizen volunteers and analyzed by a team of scientists at Ferrum College.

It was a very quiet 2024 NFL Draft back in April in Detroit with no Virginia Tech players selected. That could change drastically for the Hokies come next April in Green Bay. The quiet draft for Virginia Tech three months ago was in part because some of the players who would have likely had their names called decided to come back for one more season in Blacksburg. The extra season in college is going to raise the draft stock for some of their players and one college football analyst, Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, thinks the Hokies are "loaded with draftable talent this fall" and there have been positive reviews from across the league this summer.
