    DWI Roundup: Ayden woman charged with hitting parked car

    Ayden police charged a woman with driving while impaired after a wreck near her residence, reports said.

    Officers responded to the wreck about 3:30 p.m. on June 23 at the intersection of Magellan Court and Snow Hill Street. Almissa Renee Phillips, 39, of 4468 Magellan Court, Ayden, was identified as the driver of a car that crashed into a parked vehicle.

    When Ayden Police Department officers responded to the scene, Phillips told them she had consumed alcohol and struck the other vehicle. She had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. Her blood alcohol was .14.

    Phillips’ arrest was one of 11 for impaired driving recorded in Pitt County court documents between June 23 and July 7. Those documents pertaining to the other 10 arrests contain the following details and allegations:

    Michael Thomas Houck, 51, of 223 Windley Road, Washington, N.C., was stopped by a Pitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy about 9:30 p.m. on July 3 on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 264. The State Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Houck had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. He swayed on his feet and repeated himself. His blood alcohol content was .19. Houck has prior impaired driving convictions from offenses on Dec. 7, 2010, and June 21, 2009.Jose Luis Jimenez-Jimenez, 38, of 2612 Modern Court, Raleigh, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol at 12:43 a.m. on June 23 on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 264. Jimenez-Jimenez attempted to turn left onto the highway and nearly struck the median. He was also driving 45 mph in a 55 mph zone and weaving in his lane of travel. He had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. His blood alcohol content was .13.Felipe Martin Martinez, 37, of Lot 43 Branches Trail Park, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 11:25 p.m. on June 22 on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 264. Martinez was travelling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone when he was stopped. He admitted drinking and had red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol content was .15.Calvin Lee McKinney, 61, of 497 Vail Drive, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 10:15 p.m. on July 4 for driving 72 mph in a 55 mph zone on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 264-Alternate. McKinney failed to pull off of the highway. He had red, glassy eyes and admitted to drinking. He refused a blood alcohol test. McKinney has a prior conviction for impaired driving from an incident on Aug. 1, 2021, and a pending impaired driving charge from an incident on Nov. 4, 2023.Michael Robert Moore, 37, of 534 Black Jack-Simpson Road, was stopped by Greenville police about 9:20 p.m. on June 30 at the intersection of Southeast Greenville Boulevard and Fairview Way. Moore had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and admitted to drinking alcohol. He refused a blood alcohol test.Nevonte Rakwon Morning, 23, of 5525 White Line Road, Ayden, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 9 p.m. on June 29 on an unspecified stretch of N.C. 11 for driving without headlamps. Morning admitted to drinking alcohol and an open container of alcohol was found in his vehicle. His blood alcohol content was .13.James Edward Penley, 67, of 7348 N.C. 222, Stantonsburg, was stopped by Greenville police at 3:09 a.m. on July 7 at the intersection of Ione Street and South Memorial Drive. Penly failed to stop immediately for police and had slurred, incoherent speech. He had an odor of alcohol on his person. An open container of liquor was located in the vehicle’s passenger area. A blood test was conducted to determine impairment.Tyson Devon Perry, 33, of 438 Old Merry Hill Road, Merry Hill, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol about 1:58 a.m. July 6 on an unspecified stretch of N.C. 33. Perry was driving without a seatbelt. He had red, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his person. He was unable to follow instructions. His blood alcohol content was .18. Perry has a prior impaired driving conviction from an incident on May 30, 2015.Javier Raya-Mejia, 55, of 4109 W. Castalia Road, Nashville, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol for an unstated infraction about 7:40 p.m. on July 6 on an unspecified stretch of U.S. 13. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his person. His blood alcohol content was .18.Kevin Earl Ward, 42, of 1407 Spruce St., was stopped by Greenville police at 12:11 p.m. on July 7 at the intersection of West Arlington Boulevard and McGregor Downs Road. A reason for the stop was not provided. Ward had an open container in the vehicle and admitted to drinking alcohol. His blood alcohol content was .08.
