A man who was hospitalized after police say he fatally stabbed another man during a knife fight in Phoenix last week has been booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Phoenix police responded to a report of a stabbing near 16th Street and Indian School Road on Aug. 19 at about 8 p.m. and found a man suffering from a stab wound. The man was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Efren Partida, 34.

As homicide detectives responded to the area, they learned that another man had walked into a nearby hospital with stab wounds and was listed in critical but stable condition. Investigators linked that man to the initial fight, police said.

Phoenix police said preliminary information suggests the two men got into an argument near a convenience store when both men pulled out knives and stabbed each other during the fight.

Sgt. Brian Bower, a Phoenix police spokesperson, said on Sunday that police arrested the surviving man, Christopher Rhodd, 36, and booked him into jail on suspicion of murder. It was not immediately clear when Rhodd's next court date would be.
