The King County Sheriff’s Office – which provides police services to Burien – is warning residents about phone scams in which callers falsely claim to represent the sheriff’s office or other government agencies.

Authorities emphasize that the sheriff’s office will never contact individuals about warrants or demand payment over the phone.

Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive a call claiming they have a warrant for missing jury duty or if the caller says they represent the Social Security Office and demand payment for back taxes.

These calls are fraudulent, officials say.

The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls.
