A Wilson Prep wideout closes in on a catch during last year’s Farm Bureau Invitational. This year’s 7-on-7 pass-happy showcase — featuring eight teams and a round-robin slate — takes place Wednesday at Southern Nash High School. Play will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sheldon Vick | Special to The Enterprise

A dig.
Bunch formation.
A curl.
Four-vertical concepts designed to stress-test a secondary.
Area football enthusiasts will likely find each passing game concept on display Wednesday, when the Farm Bureau Invitational takes flight at Southern Nash High School.
The air-raid extravaganza, now in its fourth year, will feature eight teams and two installments of play over the course of six hours.
“They will play everyone in their pool before lunch, and then based on their pool record, will be seeded accordingly into a single-elimination tournament,” said Farm Bureau agent Ronnie Sutton, who is helming this year’s event with additional support from Herring-Sutton & Associates.
Pool A is composed of Wake Forest, Wilson Preparatory Academy, Panther Creek and D.H. Conley, while Pool B features Southern Nash, Overhills, Havelock and Corinth Holders.
“Next year, we’ll branch out more,” Sutton said of the bash, which already has 15 commitments for 2025. “We’re tying to expand it further west. It’s typically been Triangle-east.”
Following the 1:15 p.m. championship clash, trophies will be awarded to the event’s top three teams and the gauntlet’s most valuable player.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be staged on Thursday.
