BATON ROUGE — All East Baton Rouge Parish Library locations will be closed Thursday and Friday to observe Independence Day, the library announced Monday. Online resources including e-books, videos and online newspapers will still be available on the library's website.

Lost grave marker found, covered by grass at historic cemetery
BATON ROUGE - During a quest to find the grave of her family member, one woman is helping to draw focus to an area of the Capital City where history is buried. Sue Howes called 2 On Your Side's Brittany Weiss after visiting Magnolia Cemetery and discovering that her late baby brother's plot was nowhere to be found. Howes had suspected that the headstone was covered by dirt and grass had grown on top of it.

There are several things to keep in mind to ensure this year’s Independence day is a safe one for everyone. The American Red Cross suggests attending professional firework performances that are being done, no matter if it is legal to do at-home fireworks in your parish or not. Glow sticks and noise makers make for a safer environment for celebrating, especially with children. If you are doing fireworks at home in a parish where it is legal, remember to always follow instructions on the packaging, keep a supply of water close by, wear eye protection if lighting the firework, light one firework at a time and store fireworks away from children or pets.

WEST BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A raffle has been created to help support the family of a pregnant woman killed during a storm on May 13, 2024. Kristin Browning, 31, was killed after a tree fell on her home during the severe weather that hit last month. State officials said she was nine months pregnant, and the fetus did not survive. The sheriff’s office said an adult male and a five-year-old were also in the trailer and were taken to a local hospital.

Gardere Community Christian School has launched a $2.6M capital campaign for phase one of “Living the Vision–Building Bright Futures.
