Day 2 of trial in CDCR counselor’s death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of Robert Roberts and Sebastian Parra, charged with killing a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation counselor as he charged an electric vehicle, has entered its second day.

Benny Alcala Jr. was shot and killed near the charging stations by the Target on Stockdale Highway the evening of Aug. 24, 2022.

Prosecutor John Allen said Alcala was killed as Roberts and Parra attempted to rob him. He said Roberts was the shooter, and Parra gave him the gun.

Deputy Public Defender Gordon Lake represents Roberts. Defense lawyer Timothy Hennessy represents Parra. Each says the other’s client was responsible for Alcala’s death.
