    KCFD rescues man from vehicle in canal in south Bakersfield

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man was rescued after a vehicle went into a canal in south Bakersfield just after 9 a.m. Monday.

    Officials with the Kern County Fire Department told 17 News firefighters were dispatched to the Kern Island Canal near Highway 99 and H Street around 9:05 a.m.

    At the scene, firefighters rescued a man using a ladder slide and applied a cinch rescue ring to pull him out of the vehicle and slide across the ladder safely.

    The man had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, according to KCFD.

    Witnesses told the fire department the vehicle was traveling northbound and went into the canal.

    Environmental health was called to the scene for a gasoline leak in the canal.
