    CHP arrests over 700 organized retail crime suspects since January: Governor’s office

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Governor’s office said the California Highway Patrol has reached a milestone in the fight against organized retail crime.

    According to Governor Gavin Newsom, CHP arrested over 700 suspects and recovered nearly $250,000 in stolen goods since January.

    The merchandise is valued at nearly $7 million. California’s “organized retail crime task force” began in 2019.

    Since then, the Governor’s office said more than 28,000 people have been arrested and more than $40 million worth of stolen items have been recovered.
