BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It was a normal pool day for the Jones family until everyone came inside. That’s when little Kairo made his way back to the pool where he would drown.

“He’s my baby, that was my baby,” said grandmother Sandra Killebrew.

Kairo climbed up the stairs into an above ground pool in what felt like an instant, family says. They searched the home, the block and glanced at the pool several times before Kairo was found by a police officer.

Killebrew is staying strong through the good memories.

“Rolling our eyes at each other…cause I used to comb his hair,” said Killebrew. “Right now his hair is still the same way I left it, cause I had just done his hair that Thursday and I put it in pigtails.”

Kairo was the youngest of 15 siblings. His 16-year-old brother, Ernest Jones, was like his second dad.

“Yeah, I basically raised him,” said Jones. “I remember he fell off the bed one time, that was funny. He was crying, but it was a little bit funny.”

Exactly how his family wants everyone to remember him, through his happy times.

“Outgoing, loved to play. Loved outdoors, loved it,” said Killebrew. “Kairo was a good, little boy.”
