BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County man who molested two teenagers was resentenced to a life term in prison Wednesday after it was determined he was initially given too much time.

Miguel Castillo Jr., 45, was resentenced to 15 years to life, plus 13 years.

He was previously serving 25 years to life, plus 13 years.

Assistant District Attorney Andrea Kohler said Wednesday an error was discovered in the manner in which Castillo’s original sentence was calculated. It was determined a strike and certain enhancements were erroneously imposed.

In 2022, Castillo was found guilty of sexually molesting two teenage girls, the abuse occurring between 2015 and 2017. One victim was 14 and the other was 16 when the abuse began.

In January of 2018, one of the victims reported the abuse that led to the investigation.

Castillo was already a convicted sex offender at the time of his arrest. In 2001, he pleaded no contest to a charge of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, according to court records.
