BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A gas leak has prompted the closure of roads at Taft Hwy and South H Street in south Bakersfield on Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the 1500 block of Taft Highway at around 11:30 a.m.

Kern County Fire Department Public Information Officer Jonathan Drucker said a 4-inch underground gas line was struck. Drucker said PG&E advised gas would be leaking from the line for several hours.

PG&E officials said a third party struck the gas line. Repairs are expected to be completed by 4 p.m., according to PG&E.

The intersection at South H and Taft Highway was closed and the eastbound onramp from Taft Highway to Highway 99 was closed, according to CHP’s Traffic Incident Information Page.

PG&E officials remind the community to call 811 before they dig so lines can be marked.
