At Wisconsin's Fireworks City, families are gearing up for Fourth of July festivities

BALDWIN, Wis. — Nasty weather might cancel some fireworks displays this holiday, but over at Fireworks City in Baldwin, Wisconsin, business is booming.

"People who come out here, they're here for fun," Fireworks City owner Cele Rasmussen said. "They're not grocery shopping, they are here for fun."

In its 25 years, the family-owned business has become a destination of sorts.

"We get Minnesota, we get Wisconsin, we get North and South Dakota, we get it all," owner Cele Rasmussen said.

Owners say they have the biggest selection of legal fireworks in town.

"They want to have fun, they want a little back yard show," Rasmussen said. "This is where you pick it up."

For many who make the trip from the Twin Cities, it's become a family tradition.

Fireworks City is open all year long, but July 3 has proven to be its busiest day of the year.

"If I had to guess, I think we're probably under $600," shopper Jubran Tanious said. "But you know what? Totally worth it."

Some shoppers, like Tanious, make shopping at Fireworks City a tradition with his family.

"It's kind of become a tradition," he said. "Including driving what is about an hour for us from the Twin Cities to Baldwin. This is our spot. We've done it a few years in a row."

Others stay a while to revel in only Wisconsin delights.

"We're spending a few days in Wisconsin with the in-laws," Peter Nystrom said. "What better way to celebrate the fourth with fireworks? And the good ones from Wisconsin because we're from Minnesota."

"Save the spotted cow for after you do the fireworks," he added.

Fire officials urge everyone putting on a backyard fireworks show to keep safety top of mind. The Hudson Fire Department suggests disposing of spent fireworks in a pail of water overnight before tossing them in the garbage.

Some cities have canceled their shows due to the inclement weather . Excelsior is set to do their show on Wednesday night rather than Thursday over Lake Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie canceled their Fourth of July festivities.
