In honor of the Class of 2024, Baltimore County Public Schools is profiling one senior from each high school. These profiles highlight the intellectual and personal strengths of our seniors and their diversity.

Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you?

During my junior year, I encountered my first Advanced Placement class, and the challenges were intimidating. Ms. Fuhrmann’s guidance and teaching were significant in helping me navigate the accelerated pace of college-level courses. Through her support, I not only managed to keep up but also felt confident enough to tackle more dual enrollment and college courses afterward. This experience laid a strong foundation for my academic journey.

Volunteering at the mosque was a transformative experience for me. As a teacher helper, I took on the responsibility and role of teaching the Arabic alphabet to children on a daily basis. This role fostered independence and a sense of responsibility in me. Through mentoring, tutoring, and teaching, I witnessed significant personal growth and learned the value of leadership and responsibility.

Participation in extracurricular activities such as the National Honor Society and the Outstanding Young Women Leaders Program further shaped me as a person. Representing Dundalk High School as a young woman leader and embodying the pillars of the National Honor Society, such as scholarship, service, leadership, and character, instilled leadership qualities and independence within me. The Young Women Leaders Program was a crucial experience, offering insights into college readiness, scholarship opportunities, and enhancing my public speaking skills. Visits to universities such as Towson University broadened my perception and equipped me with valuable life skills beyond the classroom. Additionally, I was a member of the Model United Nations representing the country of Iraq at the Towson University 2023 conference and collaborated with fellow delegates to co-sponsor resolutions with a focus on firearms.

What did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

Among my proudest achievements stands graduating from Dundalk High School and the Community College of Baltimore County with various credits and a 4.0 GPA. As an Early College Access Program student, I began a journey of continuous learning, seamlessly blending college courses into my high school curriculum. This proactive approach provided me with a significant head start on my college journey, accumulating approximately 24 college credits before even stepping foot on a university campus. Particularly, my dedication to academic excellence has earned me recognition on the Dean’s List at the Community College of Baltimore County, proof of my commitment to maintaining a flawless academic record. Additionally, I have earned my Seal of Biliteracy in Arabic, which I am extremely proud of. These accomplishments not only signify academic success but also reflect my determination and perseverance in pursuing my educational goals.

    What’s next for you?

There lies much ahead of me. I’m setting my sights on a future as a full-time student, aiming to major in biology with the goal of becoming a dentist. To get a head start on this journey, I intend to transfer my credits from the Community College of Baltimore County, strategically completing some of the prerequisite courses and getting straight into more advanced subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. By doing so, I aim to accelerate my path toward graduation, potentially taking off a year from my undergraduate studies and gaining a head start on my dental career. This proactive approach reflects my dedication to achieving my professional aspirations efficiently and effectively.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I envision myself proudly having my white coat as a seasoned dentist, having dedicated four to three years to undergraduate studies followed by an additional four years in dental school. By this time, I anticipate having completed both phases of education, ready to embark on my professional journey. With my white coat secured, I foresee the potential to specialize further in fields such as endodontics, orthodontics, or dentist anesthesiology, allowing me to refine my skills and contribute meaningfully to the dental profession. This not only reflects my commitment to achieving excellence in dentistry but also my eagerness to explore and excel in specialized areas within the dental field.
