Gleyber Torres and more importantly Aaron Judge are both okay after being hit in the hand by pitches in last night’s win over the Orioles – and even thought tonight is all about Gerrit Cole’s debut, Brandon Tierney needs to see some Birds getting their wings clipped to feel good about the state of the Yankees.

“Yes, you retaliate. It's not about a pound of flesh or responding to something that likely wasn't on purpose. It's about letting Baltimore know you cannot pitch inside so freely. It's a mental thing as much as a physical thing. Both chasing the same thing. Every edge matters,” BT Tweeted Wednesday morning.

Nestor Cortes did brush back a hitter or two after the plunkings, yes, but BT went a little further in depth on Wednesday’s show, explaining to Sal why it’s so important to do more than Alex Verdugo taunting from the dugout.

“One of two teams is gonna make the World Series from the American League this year, it’s either the Yankees or the Orioles, and every little advantage adds up. The message that needs to be sent today is, ‘yeah, sure, you can throw up and in at our guys, we know that that's kind of your M.O. and that’s fine,’” BT said, “but you do it, we're gonna drill you twice and we're gonna hit you harder, and maybe we will break a bone.”

Yeah, he knows how that sounds, and Hammurabi would be proud, but it’s about more than the eye for an eye (or hand for a hand) – it’s about what’s inside.

“If the Yankees take this laying down, then this Yankee team doesn't have the heart that's required to be a champion,” BT said. “I'm sorry that Gerrit Cole has got to be put in this position his first start, but you know what? Nestor Cortes didn't have the stones to do it. I’ll tell you who would have: CC Sabathia.”

Unfortunately, CC is retired so it will have to be Cole who pulls out a ‘that’s for you, bitch!’ moment…and BT NEEDS it.

“Whether it's Gunnar Henderson or whatever star you want to hit, somebody needs to get dropped tonight.”
