After the Yankees fell in extra innings to the Orioles on Wednesday night, C-Mac sounded off on the decision by Victor Gonzalez to plunk Gunnar Henderson in the seventh inning, leading to a crucial run in the 7-6 defeat.

“I freaking hate it. I’m sorry, I hated it,” C-Mac said. “It made me sick to my stomach.

“When Gunnar Henderson came around to score, and then Giancarlo Stanton hits the home run and that run is the difference, it made me sick to my stomach.”

Henderson scored after a double to right by Ryan Mountcastle, making it a 5-1 O’s lead. Stanton responded in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run, making it 5-4. The game went to extra innings, and C-Mac says the decision to get payback for Aaron Judge being hit on the hand could have been the difference between a win and a loss.

“If you think this is a ‘soft’ take, then whatever. I don’t know what to tell you,” C-Mac said. “Judge is the best hitter in baseball. It is common knowledge…up and in, down and away. That has been baseball for 100 years. Judge is the best hitter in all of baseball. They’re going to pitch him in. Plain and simple.

“One got away. It wasn’t intentional…it was a starting pitcher who was off all night…but what did that retaliation do? I saw Henderson get hit in the fat of the arm, be slightly perturbed, walk to first base, and come around to score the fifth run of the game, which was at the time the difference in the game.”

C-Mac was worried that the Yankees would go the retaliation route, and now that the game ended in a one-run loss, it only fueled the flame of his anger.

“You could make the case that the Yankees would have won the game if they didn’t hit Henderson,” C-Mac said. “For you tough guys…you deemed retaliation more important than the victory.”
