The Baltimore Ravens made a massive move for inside linebacker Roquan Smith at the 2022 trade deadline. They traded a second-round pick, a fifth-round selection and inside linebacker A.J. Klein for Smith’s services, and the team hasn’t looked back since.

Smith is widely regarded as one of the best middle linebackers in the NFL today, but even he acknowledges that there are things that he can still improve on. He mentioned certain ways to beat blocks, recognizing routes and more, which could all help boost his already impressive and impactful skillset.

“There’s a lot of things where I think I can improve personally, but it’s all about the team and personally, as a team, we came up short. There is always room to get better, and part of being here, pretty much the entire time, is that I love this. It’s my job, and I love what I do, and so, it’s just about finding ways to get better. There are ways all across the field, whether that’s certain ways to beat different blocks, maybe route recognition even quicker. I think there are numerous amounts of things and it’s always about getting better, because if you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse, in my opinion.”

Smith has turned into the leader of Baltimore’s defense, and leads by example both on and off of the field. Nobody is the perfect player, but Smith is clearly striving for as close as he can get to it as he works to have another incredible season with the Ravens.
