Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday.

Longtime sportscaster Chris Rose and former MLB infielder Trevor Plouffe suggested on Wednesday that the Baltimore Orioles should strongly consider trading prized prospect Jackson Holliday to the Detroit Tigers in a deal for All-Star starting pitcher Tarik Skubal.

Rose and Plouffe co-host the "Baseball Today" podcast.

Baltimore selected Holliday as the No. 1 overall pick just two years ago and he's crushed the ball at all levels in the minor leagues, but the second baseman struggled mightily in his first taste of MLB action in April.

The 20-year-old son of former All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday went 2-for-34 with five runs scored, one RBI, two walks and a whopping 18 strikeouts across his first 10 games with the Orioles.

Jackson registered eight home runs, 31 RBI and seven stolen bases with a .273/.442/.471 slash line over 238 at-bats in 64 games with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides in 2024.

Skubal, meanwhile, has arguably been the best starter in the American League this year.

Although the 27-year-old lefty didn't get the starting nod in Tuesday's All-Star Game (that honor went to Baltimore ace Corbin Burnes), Skubal is an AL Cy Young candidate .

The former ninth-round pick ranks first in MLB in ERA (2.41) and second in WHIP (0.88) while tying for the fifth-most strikeouts (140) as well.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi opined on Wednesday that the Orioles are even more "capable" than the loaded Los Angeles Dodgers of putting a tempting offer on the table for Skubal.

The 2024 MLB trade deadline is on July 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
