Lamar Jackson says he looked 'fat' before losing 25 lb over 2 years

Lamar Jackson is entering the 2024 NFL season considerably slimmer.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback turned heads earlier this offseason when he showed up to offseason workouts looking much lighter.

As it turned out, Jackson lost about 25 lb over two years and 10 lb since last season. Jackson has said he is now at his playing weight from his 2019 MVP season.

So far, Jackson seems to be more comfortable playing at the lower weight. In an interview with CBS's Jonathan Jones , Jackson said he now thinks his bulkier frame in 2022 made him look "fat."

"I was fat, to me," Jackson said. "I felt like I was fat.

"I just saw a video from two years ago watching us play, I think it against the Browns, and I looked out of shape. But I was in shape."

Jackson told Jones that looking back, he thought he looked slower.

Jackson had previously told reporters that he hoped to be more "agile" this season. While speaking to Jones, Jackson said the extra weight made him "fatigued" more easily.

"Just so I can move around without getting fatigued," Jackson said of the weight loss. "That's all. I don't know if I was getting fatigued last year — probably if I [ran for] a first down."

Make no mistake, Jackson wasn't overweight or out of shape in the previous two seasons — he had bulked up to try to better withstand hits from defenses.

It's unclear what the weight loss means for Jackson this season. With the addition of Derrick Henry and a more pass-focused offense , it doesn't seem as if Jackson is going to run the ball more. Perhaps Jackson just wants to be able to slide around the pocket more easily and feel lighter when he does get on the move.

It remains to be seen if the lighter weight will benefit Jackson or affect his performance at all, but for now, he seems to be feeling better.
