Ravens’ Lamar Jackson Explains Reason For Body Transformation

When you think of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, “slow” is certainly not one of the descriptive words that will come to mind.

However, Jackson says that two years ago, he felt that he was, in fact, slowing down because he put on too much weight.

That’s why the two-time MVP has made a concerted effort to slim down this offseason.

“I was fat,” Jackson told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports . “I just saw a video from two years ago, against the Browns, and I looked out of shape.”

Jackson added that he “looked a little slower” in 2022, “but not now.”

The superstar also wants the world to know that his athleticism isn’t waning because he’s getting older.

“I’m only 27. I’m still young,” Jackson said. “It doesn’t have anything to do with age.”

During his first MVP season in 2019, Jackson racked up 1,206 yards on the ground, setting an NFL record for quarterbacks. He then tallied 1,005 yards the following year.

Jackson has not touched 1,000 yards since. Last season, he finished with 821 rushing yards in 16 games, but he still led the NFL with 5.5 yards per carry.

Can Lamar Jackson and the Ravens finally break through in 2024?

The Ravens keep knocking on the door, but they just can’t seem to close the deal.

Baltimore has notched the No. 1 overall seed twice in the last five seasons, including last year. However, the Ravens have still failed to make it to the Super Bowl.

As a matter of fact, Jackson has gone just 2-4 in the playoffs, which has been a source of criticism for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Will 2024 finally be the year that the Ravens break through?

Baltimore added running back Derrick Henry this offseason to bolster its offense, although it didn’t do much to improve its ailing receiving corps.

Outside of Zay Flowers, the Ravens don’t have a whole lot of talent at the wide receiver position, which will once again result in Jackson leaning a whole lot on his tight ends.

Baltimore should remain elite defensively because, well, that’s what the Ravens do. But there is no doubt that their offense will be a question mark heading into the year.

We’ll see if Lamar Jackson can finally get Baltimore on a Super Bowl track in 2024.
