The NFL world was dealt a sad blow earlier when it was announced that former Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones died in his sleep at his home in Louisiana on July 14. Jones was 40 years old when he died.

The former NFL player died of natural causes, it was reported on Tuesday, according to TMZ . The outlet revealed that Jones died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, heart disease caused by long-term high blood pressure.

Jones spent his nine-year NFL career with a total of five teams but spent the most time with the Houston Texans and Ravens. His biggest claim to fame came in Baltimore’s Super Bowl XLVII win against the San Francisco 49ers in his hometown of New Orleans. Jones had a 56-yard touchdown catch and a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in that game.

Jones recently accepted a job to become the head coach and offensive coordinator of the Beaumont Renegades, an indoor football expansion franchise set to begin play in 2025, according to NBC .

Jones is resting heavily in the hearts of Ravens players and fans this year. Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson recently spoke about his passing and said that the team will try to win a Super Bowl for the fallen teammate in 2025.
