Northern Light Cancer Care in Brewer welcomes three oncologists

BREWER — Northern Light Cancer Care in Brewer is pleased to welcome three oncologists to the team: Erdem Altunel, MD; Dawn Brooks, MD; and Kamal Sahu, MD.

Dr. Altunel earned his medical degree from Ankara University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and a Fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester. Dr. Altunel is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and is board eligible for certification in Oncology and Hematology. He treats solid tumors and both malignant and benign blood disorders and has a special interest in gastrointestinal and colorectal cancers.

Dr. Brooks earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville and earned a doctorate in molecular biology from Princeton University. Dr. Brooks received postdoctoral training with an internship and residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center/Internal Medicine in Lebanon and a fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University/Medical Oncology in Portland. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and brings a special interest in breast and lung cancer to the team.

Dr. Sahu earned his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences, Bilaspur in India and completed an Internal Medicine residency at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He then completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Dr. Sahu is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Oncology and is eligible for certification in Hematology. He treats patients with solid tumors, as well as benign and malignant blood disorders and has a special interest in genitourinary malignancies, or cancers of the urinary system and reproductive organs.
