Northern Light Health’s pharmacy on State Street in Bangor will be moving.

Northern Light Pharmacy’s new location will be at the corner of State and Otis streets, closer to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to the health care system.

“We are very excited for the plans of our new pharmacy to open later next year. While our current location has served us well, our new location will allow for more convenient parking, enhancements to the prescription pick-up drive-through, as well as more private spaces for patient consultation. In addition, the modernized design will allow for better workflow and efficiencies for our team of employees and a revitalized environment for our patients. We will also continue offering our current specialized services such as compounding, prescription home delivery, and our bedside medication delivery programs for patients being discharged from the hospital,” Matt Marston, vice president and chief pharmacy officer for Northern Light Health, said in a Thursday statement announcing the move.

Northern Light Health says the new building will better meet the needs of customers and pharmacy staff.

Its opening date isn’t yet set. Construction will begin this winter, with an anticipated opening later in 2025.

Northern Light Pharmacy was formerly Miller Drug. Miller Drug opened its State Street location, at the corner of Forest Avenue, in 1957. Before that it was a variety store, which opened in 1939.

Miller Drug merged with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems in 2010. When Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems rebranded as Northern Light Health in 2018, it was renamed Northern Light Pharmacy .
