One of Bangor’s major health care providers slashed the hours of its walk-in care clinic on Union Street, closing the resource for three days a week.

Northern Light Health’s Walk-In Care clinic on Union Street is now open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Monday. The medical office is closed every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The walk-in care center treats minor illnesses or injuries, such as sprains or broken bones. The resource is designed for people who don’t have a physician, are from out of town, or their primary care doctor is unavailable but they need help immediately.

The change was made to focus the clinic’s “available resources” to the days when the office sees the most patients, which is typically on the weekend, according to Derek Hurder, a spokesperson for the health care system.

“This ensures we can continue to provide consistent, high-quality care to our patients when they need it most,” Hurder said. “Patients in need of acute care Tuesday through Thursday should call their primary care team or contact them using the patient portal.”

The walk-in clinic was previously closed on Wednesdays but open all other days of the week.

The change took effect on June 26. Northern Light has no plans to expand the clinic’s hours.
