43rd Annual Franklin County Watermelon Festival kicks off this weekend
RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. — The Franklin County Watermelon Festival takes place this weekend, August 16-17, in Russellville, the "Watermelon Capital of Alabama." Held every third weekend in August, the festival promises two days of live music, contests, and family-friendly activities, along with plenty of sweet watermelon. 6 p.m.: Festival opens.

RESULTS: 2024 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier
Ian Weinberg, a Cleveland Heights native, and Conner Pratt, from Hoover, Alabama, posted the day’s low round at Avon Oaks Country Club in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier. The pairing cleared the rest of the field by two strokes, posting an 11-under 61. Weinburg and Pratt combined for nine birdies and an eagle on their round. The duo avoided any bogeys on their card, which allowed them to comfortably avoid any playoff scenario.
