A 44-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening in Barberton after firing a bullet into his neighbor's home, according to police.

Barberton police responded to reports of a male firing into his neighbor's house in the area of Second Street SW and Palmer Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. Upon arrival, officers noticed the bullet hole in the victim's house which came from the suspect's residence.

The suspect came out to the porch, but refused to listen to officers and exit the porch, and went back inside his residence, police said. Officers gave the suspect commands to come outside but he did not comply, leading to the Barberton Police Department SWAT Team being called.

After police negotiators tried to talk to the suspect for almost two hours, SWAT officers fired multiple gas rounds into the house in order to get him to come out, police said. Shortly after the gas was deployed, the suspect came outside and surrendered to officers.

The suspect was subsequently charged with improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, a second degree felony. He was booked into Summit County Jail.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
