BARBOUR COUNTY , WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman is charged after she sold a car that wasn’t hers for 175 dollars.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the officer met with Ms. Melissa Long regarding her report of a stolen car. Ms. Long stated that her vehicle, a silver 2013 Nissan Rogue, had been parked in front of the “Old Club Hot” along Rt. 250 and had broken down there nearly a year prior.

On that same day, Ms. Long mentioned that she had driven by the location where her vehicle was parked and noticed it was missing. She confirmed that she had not authorized anyone to move her vehicle. Subsequently, Ms. Long contacted Sugar Creek Salvage and inquired about her car.

Mr. Jesse Degarmo informed her that Ms. Mary Jane Judy and Ms. Betty Jo Mayle had sold him the vehicle for $175. On Thursday, July 25, 2024, the officer spoke with Mr. Jesse Degarmo over the phone regarding the stolen vehicle.

During the conversation, Mr. Degarmo explained that Ms. Mary Jane Judy had called him on May 28, 2024, asking him to pick up a truck from the “Old Club Hot” area, to which he agreed. Upon his arrival, he found the truck filled with trash and refused to take it. Ms. Judy then offered to sell him the silver 2013 Nissan Rogue parked in the same area. He agreed to buy the vehicle for $175 but stated that he needed the title. Ms. Judy indicated that Ms. Betty Jo Mayle would know the whereabouts of the title.

At that moment, Ms. Mayle came outside and told Mr. Degarmo that she had the title and would give it to him when he returned to pick up the truck Ms. Judy wanted to sell. Mr. Degarmo consented and paid Ms. Judy $175, for which she signed a receipt. He then transported the silver 2013 Nissan Rogue to Sugar Creek Salvage Yard, where it remains. Ms. Mary Jane Judy unlawfully deprived Ms. Melissa Long of her vehicle by misrepresenting herself to Mr. Degarmo and Sugar Creek Salvage as the rightful owner.
