BARBOURSVILLE, WV (WOWK) — Area elementary students in the Summer Learning Adventure program came together Wednesday to march down Central Avenue in Barboursville for an Independence Day parade.

The community gathered along the street to cheer the students on and give their appreciation for the men and women who have served our country.

“The parade is just to show that. We do truly appreciate our Veterans. We appreciate the service they get. We appreciate our active military and truly do try to foster patriotism in our school system,” said Elementary Summer Learning Administrator Matt Hicks.

On Thursday, the celebrations will continue throughout Barboursville with food trucks and a firework celebration.
