    Grandfather of teen killed in 4th of July crash gives back to EMS

    CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – In a time of grief for his family, a man in Cabell County is thinking of those who are the first on the scene of a tragedy.

    Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, first responders in Cabell County answered the call to the scene of a deadly car crash on Route 60 in Barboursville. Three vehicles were involved.

    Cabell Midland High School student Braxton McComas, 17, died when the vehicle he was driving was hit by an alleged drunk driver, according to police. Another teenager in the vehicle with McComas was injured in the crash.

    The community laid Braxton to rest on Tuesday . On Wednesday, Cabell County EMS said Braxton’s grandfather visited them just to check in on them and to bring food to the crews.

    Our hearts are heavy and go out to the McComas family for the loss of Braxton,” said Cabell County EMS Director Gordon Merry . “Thank you for considering us during this time.

    The driver of the second vehicle, Joshua Wilson, was also taken to the hospital and is being charged with DUI causing death, according to police. The occupants of the third vehicle were not injured, according to the Barboursville Police Department.
