An Ocean County man has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run accident in Toms River Sunday afternoon. Authorities say 68-year-old John Marrone of Seaside Park has been charged with causing death or injury while driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license and knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision On Route 72 Near Mill Creek Rd.
Stafford Twp. - On July 20, 2024 at approximately 7:45 PM, a motor vehicle collision took place on State Highway 72 eastbound near mile 24.5, involving two passenger vehicles. A 2018 Subaru, driven by Justin Layer, 26, from Barnegat, was traveling east on Highway 72 when a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by Kevin Scoda, 24, from Edison, New Jersey, collided with him. Scoda's vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a utility pole, subsequently engulfing in flames. Prior to the arrival of police and emergency services, unidentified citizens managed to help Scoda out of his vehicle. Kevin Scoda was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident. The Stafford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to Kevin Scoda's family during this painful time.

A Seaside Heights man has admitted to causing the death of an older local man, who was knocked from his bicycle last year.
