Unexpected Witness Comes Forward after 2008 Iowa Car Crash Becomes Homicide Investigation
In 2008, detectives with the Des Moines Police Department (D.M.P.D.) in Iowa were called to what was initially believed to be a fatal car accident along an off-ramp on Interstate 235. However, a post-mortem examination would determine that the car’s sole occupant, 41-year-old mother Michele Davis, actually had injuries consistent with a homicide, a revelation explored in Killer Relationship with Faith Jenkins.
Noelck Family Presented Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award Friday
Friday, the Isreal (Is) and Kristin Noelck family of Franklin County was presented the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award during a presentation at the Hampton Country Club. Noelck Farms was established in the 1960s by Ivan and Karen Noelck. Their son, Is, joined the operation in 1992. Now, more than three decades later, the multi-generational family farm includes Is and his wife, Kristin, and their three children: sons Isaiah and his wife Reann and their daughter Halston; Noah and his fiancé Maci; and daughter Isabella.
Pella Community Foundation Grants Open Through October
Applications are open for non-profit organizations for grants through the Pella Community Foundation. President Jim Brandl says in 2023, the foundation moved up the deadline and there was a slight drop in enrollees, and this year, he wants more creators of potential projects to seek support. Brandl says any official non-profit organization in the Pella area can apply for support for a wide range of needs through a larger Impact grant or their board-directed options. Knoxville Raceway Lowers The Curtain On The Sprint Car Season Tonight
The 2024 sprint car season at the Knoxville Raceway comes to an end tonight with Season Championship Night as three track champions will be crowned. Two of the three may go down to the final laps of the A-Main as Austin McCarl holds a 95 point lead over Aaron Reutzel as those are the only two drivers that are still mathematically alive for the title. In the Pro Sprints, up to six drivers are still mathematically alive with Mike Mayberry holding a 76 point lead over J Kinder. Kinder started slowly the first two week’s but has been on fire since winning four of five nights earlier in the season. The only class that does not have much drama tonight is the 360s where Jamie Ball only needs to take his Time trial laps and he will clinch his first career track championship. Miller-Meeks aids in securing nearly $1.5 million award for UI
U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, helped obtain nearly $1.5 million of congressional funding disbursed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Miller-Meeks stopped at Van Allen Hall on the University of Iowa’s campus on Friday afternoon to meet with university faculty, tour space equipment, and discuss the importance of funding for the Iowa workforce.
ISU Mourns Loss of Hall of Famer Mike Stensrud
Iowa State University mourns the passing of Mike Stensrud, a Hall of Fame defensive player, who died at the age of 68. Stensrud was pivotal in transforming the Cyclones’ football program during his tenure from 1974-78, helping the team secure bowl invitations in both 1977 and 1978. Renowned for his imposing presence on the field, Stensrud recorded 306 tackles and led the Big Eight in sacks during his junior year. His influence extended beyond his playing days, with a legacy upheld by his family members who also participated in ISU athletics.
Centennial Football aiming for another trip to dome
ANKENY – The Centennial Jaguars made it all the way to the semifinals of the 5A postseason last year and are aiming for another trip to the dome this year. The Jags went just 5-4 in the regular season, earning the 13 seed in the playoffs. Centennial lost in the semifinals to rival Ankeny 10-7.
