Carmelo Anthony doesn't deny the fact that LeBron James literally saved his life while they were on a group vacation nearly a decade ago. However, he gets a little uncomfortable every time someone asks him about it, especially since LeBron hasn't been too shy in retelling the incident to members of the media.

During a recent interview with Rachel Nichols for Open Court, Melo was asked again about that near-drowning incident. As usual, the ten-time NBA All-Star blushed while recounting that experience.

"I wasn't dying, but he came and got me," said Melo. "Like definitely, you know, Superman came, and he saved the day. It was like, 'Man, what?' and it took him. I'm sitting like, 'Why it had to be him?'. Like why it couldn't be like D-Wade? You ain't gonna hear about it from D-Wade. You ain't gonna hear about it from CP."

    The banana boat vacation

Melo, Bron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul vacationed together in the Bahamas during the 2016 NBA offseason. This was the trip when the iconic banana boat brothers' photo was taken. Melo wasn't in the viral portrait, but he was with his friends during that leisure voyage.

One of their activities was snorkeling in a little cave. After a few minutes, they returned to the boat, but Anthony stayed behind. That's when a current started to pull him out to the ocean. Fortunately, James noticed that he was drifting away from the boat, so he dove back and got Melo back to safety.

"It exemplifies the friendship," Melo added. "Because even in life, it's like 'Melo, we know you like to go this way. Like you like to do things on your own. You like to float away. You like to think out of the box, and we gonna reel you back in."

Anthony got left out of the Miami Super team

There is no better example of Carmelo doing things on his own than when LeBron and Wade decided to team up in Miami in 2010. That's because Melo was supposed to be part of the group that would join forces during that free agency season. However, Anthony chose not to align his contract with the group because he was comfortable with his situation in Denver .

"Out of all of us at that moment, I felt the most comfortable and the most confident in my situation in Denver. We were winning. We were having somewhat some success, and we were building off previous years. So, I did not want to sign a three-year deal with an option. I want to be here long term. This is my organization, this is my city. I want to be here long term, and that was my thinking at that point," Melo explained .

Anthony's penchant for doing things his way ended up costing him a chance to win an NBA championship because James, Wade, and Chris Bosh won two during their time together. Carmelo also knows that it almost cost him his life during that Bahamas trip. Thankfully, Captain LeMerica was there to save the day.
