Kevin Durant always had his mom, Wanda, by his side. However, that almost wasn't the case. In a stunning and tear-jerking revelation, Wanda divulged that she was on the verge of taking her own life after KD's birth. She eventually came to her senses, realizing there was no one to take care of her kids.

"To be quite honest, that was a scary day," Wanda began . "I wasn't expecting a boy 'cause I wanted a girl 'cause I already had an older son. But it was a scary day because I knew my job was hard. I had two young men, two babies that I had to raise to be young men."

Wanda's eldest son, Tony, was born three years earlier. Wanda's marriage with the kids' dad, Wayne Pratt, was rocky at the time, and eventually, he abandoned the family, leaving her to raise the kids alone.

"I wanted to quit but I knew that there would be no one on this Earth that would take of my sons the way I did. And so, people say, what did you sacrifice? And to be quite honest, I sacrificed my suicide. It still hurts to this day that I was in a place, 'cause I didn't see a future for me, that I don't wanna be here anymore. But I knew I had to stay for my children," Wanda added.

    "The Real MVP"

After accepting the 2014 MVP award, KD was in tears, alluding to his mom as "the real MVP." The forward had just carried the Oklahoma City Thunder on his back by averaging 32.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks. However, he knew that the battle began before stepping on an NBA court.

"The odds were stacked against us. Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old," a tearful KD said . "We weren't supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn't eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You the real MVP."

    "Raising Fame"

As she always has, Wanda has consistently been a pillar of support and strength in her sons' lives. And rest assured, she's not stopping anytime soon.

Her struggle as a single mother is one of the main story points in the sixth episode of "Raising Fame." The new show hosted by NBA moms Sonya Curry and Lucille O'Neal puts mothers in the limelight, allowing fans to take a personal peek at the lives of iconic people through the eyes of their moms.

We know how moms are. As the two-time NBA Finals MVP puts it, they're the real MVPs. Luckily, that's what Wanda continues to be for Kevin.
