BATAVIA, Ill. — Multiple emergency response teams helped save a suburban man and his dog from the Fox River.

Just after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, crews with the Batavia Fire Department, the Batavia Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 500 block of N. River St. for a subject in the water.

First responders located a 36-year-old St. Charles man in chest-deep waters hugging a concrete wall on the east bank of the Fox River just south of the dam. After jumping into the water to retrieve the canine, the man was holding his dog.

Facing strong currents, the man’s friend called 911, promoting the arrival of emergency crews.

Once at the scene, crews used ropes to lift the man and dog from over the concrete wall.
