A pitcher who Jay Johnson landed out of the transfer portal in 2023 is tossing his name back into the portal this year. Justin Loer is exiting the Bayou after only one season.

Loer finished with a 2-0 record and a 5.92 ERA. He pitched fewer innings this year than either of his two years at his previous school, Xavier. He pitched 24.1 innings, one inning fewer than how many he pitched during his freshman season at Xavier.

He struck out 30 hitters while walking 12. Loer will be entering his senior season next year no matter where he ends up. Johnson has been very active in the portal as he has been trying to reload a roster that still has a lot of talent but fell short of Omaha this year.

I hope that Loer is successful no matter where he lands next. He is a pitcher with a lot of great tools. He just needs some more innings.
