BATON ROUGE, La. ( WGNO ) — The LSU Baseball program received some monster news in the hours leading up to the 2024 MLB Draft.

Catholic of Baton Rouge star pitcher William Schmidt has reportedly withdrawn his name from the draft and has decided to play baseball in Baton Rouge next season.

Schmidt confirmed the news on social media with the caption, “Callin Baton Rouge! Time for another Natty.”

William Schmidt signed with LSU but was not expected to make his way to campus because he was a projected first round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

The top right handed pitcher in the class of 2024 powered Catholic to a Division I Select state championship win over John Curtis. He struck out nine Patriots and allowed just one hit in the win.

The 6’4, 190-pound pitcher posted 102 strikeouts and a .44 ERA his senior season with the Bears.
