BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding a mini dirt bike in Battle Creek Thursday, police say.

Around 7:15 p.m., the boy was riding a Coleman mini dirt bike and turned east on West Spaulding Avenue from Ashland Avenue in Battle Creek, according to police. He was then hit by a 2003 Ford F250 driven by a 41-year-old Battle Creek man who was also headed east on Spaulding Avenue.

The 11-year-old went into cardiac arrest and first responders performed CPR before the boy was taken to the hospital. He was in stable, critical condition as of Friday evening, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

A witness to the crash told police the 11-year-old rode his bike onto West Spaulding Avenue without yielding for the sign and turned into the path of the truck, which couldn’t stop before hitting the boy.

    Battle Creek police are investigating.
