LEROY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a Battle Creek man was killed Wednesday in a crash.

It happened around 1:40 p.m. in Leroy Township, at the intersection of M-66 and B Drive South, according to the Michigan State Police.

Troopers say a Lincoln SUV was heading east on B Drive when it didn’t stop at a traffic signal, causing a crash with a transit van that was southbound on M-66.

The Lincoln’s driver, a 71-year-old man from Battle Creek, suffered fatal injuries, according to state police. They say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The van’s driver, a 51-year-old man from East Leroy, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to MSP. Troopers say he seemed to have been wearing a seat belt.

Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

The road was shut down for about 3.5 hours but has since reopened.
