Grant Fisher surges past Abdihamid Nur to win men’s 5,000 at Olympic trials
EUGENE — Grant Fisher outdueled Abdihamid Nur on the home straight in an epic finish of the men’s 5,000 meters Sunday on a warm, breezy day at the U.S. Olympic trials. Fisher and Nur broke away from the pack over the last four laps, and the two traded the lead on the final lap. As they barreled down the home straight before an excited crowd of 12,243, Fisher had the lead. Nur pulled even, and Fisher used a last surge to cross the line first.

Hiltz crossed the finish line in a meet-record 3 minutes, 55.33 seconds, breaking the record of 3:58.03 set by Elle St. Pierre in 2021.
