Portland Celebrates Diversity with Thousands Attending Pride Parade Amid National Political Shifts
Despite a stormy start, Portland's Pride celebration witnessed thousands of attendees who gathered to champion diversity and self-expression yesterday. According to KOIN 6, despite the rain, the festivities, including the parade and the subsequent Old Town Block Party and waterfront festival, went off without a hitch. Headlined by Portland's very own drag superstar, Jinkx Monsoon, the event carried an atmosphere of freedom and open celebration.

Gator on the loose in Washington!
Quite the incident happened near the 9400 block of Ray Grade Rd. in Snohomish County over the weekend. Reports came in to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Department and Washington State Fish and Wildlife for a 10-foot-long ferocious man-eating gator! Was it really painted as a ferocious man-eating monster? Probably not, but I'd like to think so. This call came in for this 10-foot gator, and people were very freaked out. The Snohomish County Sheriff and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife were aware of the sighting, and they made a post about it on social media. That post was shared hundreds of times. When sheriffs and wildlife officials arrived, they were shocked to see it wasn't a gator at all.

Pickathon 2024: Welcome to the neighborhood
With the return of the annual music festival Pickathon to Pendarvis Farm, Aug. 1-4, another year of music, art and curated experiences is just around the corner. Twelve miles outside of Portland in Happy Valley, Pickathon has transported visitors through art and music at Pendarvis Farm since 2006, although the festival got its start as a fundraiser for the community radio station KBOO in 1999.

A giant falls: Sam Mowry, 1959-2024
Sam A. Mowry, a beloved Portland actor and director known both for his personal gentleness and generosity and for his deep, profoundly captivating onstage speaking voice, died on Saturday morning, July 20, 2024, at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas. He suffered massive cardiac arrest while being prepared to undergo emergency surgery for severe blockages in his arteries. He was 64.
