BAYONNE, NJ - Three workers were rescued from inside a vacant home last week, Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver reported.

Firefighters faced heavy smoke coming from the attic area of a one and half story home at 5 Pavonia Court when they arrived there at 4:57 p.m. on Thursday after reports of a structure fire. Fire Chief Keith Weaver said firefighters used multiple handlines to extinguish the blaze which progressed to two alarms before being declared under control at 5:27 p.m.

“Our firefighters arrived within minutes of the initial 9-1-1 call and quickly knocked down this fire, keeping damage to a minimum and preventing further spread to very closely spaced neighboring structures,” Weaver said.

An investigation is underway, however, the fire appears to be accidental in nature.
