This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette. Golf — Stillwater Area High School graduate Kyle Scanlon is among a group of three area players qualifying for the Minnesota Golf Association’s Amateur Championship at Golden Valley Golf and Country Club. Jordan Hawkinson of Chisago Lakes Golf Course and Brent Barnacle of Loggers Trail Golf Club are also in the field.. Girls lacrosse — After helping the Ponies to their best-ever finish in four trips to the state tournament, junior Remi Larson is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater girls lacrosse team. Ashlyn Jelinek, Katie Lottsfeldt, Carter Sanderson, Kate Sheely and Sara Stickler join Larson in receiving all-conference honors for the team, which place third at state to finish with a 15-4 record.

Boys lacrosse: Carroll and Lynskey chosen MVPs for Ponies
Seniors Wyatt Carroll and Brock Lynskey are co-recipients of the Most Valuable Athlete Award for the conference and section champion Stillwater boys lacrosse team. Carroll was a force on defense for the Ponies, who limited opponents to about seven goals per game. He also ranked second on the team with 57 ground balls. Lynskey ranked among team leaders with 44 goals and six assists for 50 points. ...

Soel Riser was honored as the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys track and field team. The senior earned all-conference and all-state honors while helping the Ponies to Suburban East Conference and Section 4AAA championships before placing ninth at the Minnesota State High School League state meet. PAUL, MN (July 27, 2024) - After nearly two turns through the rotation of dominant pitching, the last three of which came against one of the best teams in the Minor Leagues, the St. Paul Saints finally met their match. The offense did very little against Omaha Storm Chasers starter Daniel Lynch IV and Saints starter Zebby Matthews gave up a career-tying high nine hits in a 9-2 loss on Saturday night at CHS Field in front of 8,090.
