Family Day at the Range targets shooting safety in Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE — The Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club and BKK Firearms and Defensive Systems are teaming to hold Family Day at the Range, an educational and hands-on event for persons of all shooting ability and even rookies – all in the vein of safety.

“That’s one of the things we really tout about this, is that safety comes first above anything else,” said Bruce Smith, BKK Firearms owner and certified conceal carry instructor for Delaware and Maryland.

Held in conjunction with National Shooting Sports Month in August, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club at 10409 Rifle Range Road.

“It’s open to anybody that wants to come. The last couple of years we’ve had an average of 500 to 600 people show up for it,” said Mr. Smith.

Various types of firearms, demonstrations and shooting opportunities will be based in five range bays.

These include:

• Cowboys with demonstrations.

• Steel targets with ammunition for attendees wishing to shoot under the guidance of safety officers.

• Armed Women of America demonstration, with Erin Chronister, a Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club board member.

• International Defensive Pistol Association.

• .22-caliber firearms, for kids and adults.

A major distributor from Vermont, Century Arms, is providing several pistols, Mr. Smith said.

Firearms will be provided but those who bring their own must supply ammunition, Mr. Smith said.

A food truck and ice cream truck will be on site as well as various vendors.

Auctions will be held for firearms/pistols. Proceeds will support the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association.

The Woodbridge Marine Corps JROTC will assist with parking and other tasks.

As 2024 is an election year, Mr. Smith anticipates political candidates will be in attendance.

The goal, Mr. Smith says, is to “come on out and have a good day” at the range.
