LAUREL — Colin Larrimore, the 21-year-old son of Laurel School District’s superintendent, is facing charges related to the possession of illegal digital materials, the district announced Tuesday.

School officials were “contacted by law enforcement on June 12, 2024, regarding legal proceedings involving a former employee, Colin Larrimore, the 21-year-old son of our Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Larrimore. The individual is facing serious charges related to the possession of illegal digital materials,” a statement reads.

The district also noted that it immediately reported the matter to the Delaware Department of Education.

The younger Larrimore resigned his position in the Laurel School District’s information technology department June 13, and the district informed the Education Department of his resignation June 17.

“Employment action was handled swiftly and without preferential treatment, despite his familial connection to the Superintendent,” the district stated.

Colin’s employment was limited to work in the IT division, the statement reads, and the alleged activity took place solely through communication on his personal cellphone.

The district also stated that law enforcement officials have confirmed that there are no allegations of any physical or online contact with Laurel students. Plus, authorities noted, no district technology, networks or devices were involved.

“The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. The district is fully cooperating with law enforcement,” the statement continues.

On May 11, Colin’s father, Dr. Larrimore, was arrested on DUI charges during a traffic stop, according to Laurel police. He was relieved of superintendent duties at the time but reinstated by the Laurel board of education July 8.
