CRISFIELD — The youngest of the 77th National Hard Crab Derby’s royal court were picked last Friday night with a couple of dancers rising to the top to be named Little Miss and Little Mr. Crustacean.

Adalyn Faye Cullen in her sparking jacket danced to Meghan Trainor’s song “No Excuses” which was a crowd pleaser, leaving emcee Avery Wilson to say, “There’s no excuses not to be cheering for her.”

And David Holland knew all the right moves to “Space Jam” which included a hip swivel and a bow at the end followed by a wide round of applause and Ms. Wilson saying, “That’s what I’m talkin’ about, now I’ve got some blood flowing here!”

Adalyn and David will join the new Miss Crustacean who will be crowned tonight (Wednesday) and help hand out Crab Derby trophies and awards this weekend while representing the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce over the next 12 months.

Six-year-old Adalyn is the daughter of Alyssa Mears and Jacob Cullen and sister to twin brothers. During her interview this incoming first grader described highlights of her birthday cruise to the Bahamas and how she’s mastered front flips and backward rolls in gymnastics but wants to learn more.

David, age 5, is the son of Robbie and Mandi Holland, with a guard dog Tank and two cats also at home. This kindergartner at Holly Grove Christian School is a fan of Minecraft and builds roller coasters. He is also looking forward to when he grows up to collecting eggs from the family’s nine chickens.

Ms. Wilson — Miss Crustaean 2021 — learned so much during the interview she described David as “a master engineer and a master of poultry.”

First runner-up among the young ladies was Kingsley Hope Birckett, the daughter of Erica Henderson and Jay Birckett who was celebrating her sixth birthday. The 2023 Little Miss Somerset County Fair recited nursery rhymes and during the interview described her trip to Disney World and how she enjoys picking peaches and black berries with her Pop Pop.

Maggie Crockett, daughter of John and Kelley Crockett, was second runner-up, singing and dancing to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Singing “I’m Little but I’m Loud” was Teagan Faye Windsor, daughter of Clifton and Samantha Windsor who was third runner-up. Following her was Stella Renee Hernandez, daughter of Jenna and Bert Hernandez who sang “You’ve got a Friend in Me.”

Michah Blue in his bright green suit was first runner-up for the boys. He said during his interview if he had a super power “It would be controlling the weather so Crisfield’s not always flooded so I can go outside.”

The son of Quianna Tilghman and Micah Blue, he sang and danced off the stage to “Candy Rain.”

Second runner-up Lloyd “Tyler” Dorman sang “He’s got the Whole World in His Hands” and said he is a fan of anything to do with Titanic. He is the son of Olivia and Matt Domenick.

Third runner-up was Colten Bozman, son of Savannah Bozman and Ryan Bozman who line danced to “Where I Come From.” He’s a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and country music singer Morgan Wallen.

Judges Tonya Agostino, founder of Unstoppable Joy; Tierra Williams of WMDT-TV and Worcester County teacher Caitlin Evans were able to meet and speak with the contestants off stage prior to the start of the event which factored into their final scores. Lisa Dize was again pageant director

Contestants entered Crisfield High School’s auditorium in Team USA jackets to showcase the pageant theme “Go for Gold” this being the year of the Olympics in Paris.

Adalyn and David succeed 2023’s Little Miss Crustacean Elliott Larmore and Little Mr. Crustacean Zeke Jones who both said they enjoyed their special year.
