New Jersey man arrested after theft investigation in Dover

DOVER — A 56-year-old New Jersey man was arrested following a theft investigation that began early Wednesday, Dover Police spokesperson Ryan Schmid said.

Authorities said that at 9 a.m., Dover Police were notified that an alleged fraudulent withdraw from a person’s account for over $170,000 was scheduled for 11 a.m. at Citizen’s Bank, 799 North DuPont Highway.

Further investigation, Cpl. Schmid said, determined that on Aug. 19 over $100,000 was removed from the person’s account and moved to a separate account, by someone using a fake identification. The suspect was described as a white male, with gray hair and a thin build, police said.

Cpl. Schmid said detectives set up surveillance in the area and at 3:05 p.m., a suspect matching the description entered the bank and attempted to make the withdraw. The suspect, later identified as Robert Nuccio, of Spottswood, was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police said Mr. Nuccio provided a fake name when he was taken into custody.

Mr. Nuccio was charged with theft over $100,000 and victim over 52 years or older, attempt to commit theft over $100,000 and victim 62 years or older, identity theft, third-degree forgery and criminal impersonation. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $132,000 cash bail.
