    Pigskin Picks: After season debuts, what will Downstate teams do for an encore?

    A lot can change in just one week.

    All the high school football teams who won their season openers feel invincible for the moment.

    Even with the mistakes they probably made in those games, they’re still undefeated.

    Meanwhile, the teams that lost are all pretty determined they’re not going to start the season 0-2.

    Of course, the only place those squads can continue — or change — the trajectory of their season is on the field.

    All 46 teams in Delaware will have played at least one game after Saturday’s action.

    Here’s our predictions for this weekend’s Downstate games.

    Wilmington Charter (0-0) at First State Military (1-0), 4 p.m.
    Bulldogs anxious to end a three-game losing streak against the Force.
    AW: FSM, 16-14; TM: Charter, 24-14 ; GF: FSM, 14-7.

    Canarsie, N.Y. (0-1) at Dover (0-1), 6 p.m.
    After scoring just three points last week, Senators look to get their offense on track.
    AW: Dover, 24-6; TM: Dover, 14-13; GF: Dover, 10-6.

    Polytech (0-0) at J.M. Bennett, Md. (0-0), 6 p.m.
    Panthers look to start their promising season with a non-conference win.
    AW: Poly, 28-21; TM: Poly, 28-17; GF: Poly, 18-12.

    AI DuPont (0-1) at Indian River (0-0), 6 p.m.
    After winning its first three games last fall, Indians looking for another fast start.

    Salesianum (1-0) at Smyrna (0-1)
    Things don’t get any easier for the Eagles, who face the defending Class 3A state champs.. Smyrna lost twice to Sallies a year ago.

    Caesar Rodney (1-0) at Lake Forest (1-0)
    CR wants to prove its better than the team that lost to Lake by 25 a year ago.
    AW: CR, 17-13; TM: CR, 22-21; GF: CR, 17-14.

    Middletown (1-0) at Sussex Central (1-0)
    No one would be surprised if this was a preview of a Class 3A state tournament game.
    AW: Mid, 31-17; TM: Mid, 30-14; GF: Mid, 21-17.

    Delmar (1-0) at Delaware Military (1-0)
    After falling to DMA at home last year, the Wildcats face the Seahawks in Wilmington this time.
    AW: DMA, 27-21; TM: DMA, 24-21; GF: Delmar, 18-17.

    Brandywine (0-0) at Laurel (0-1)
    Laurel goes for its fourth-straight victory in the Battle of the Bone.
    AW: Laurel, 34-13; TM: Laurel, 30-20; GF: Laurel, 28-14.

    Saturday, Sept. 7

    Sussex Tech (1-0) at Delcastle (0-0), 11 a.m.
    After putting up 56 points a week ago, the Ravens look to keep their offense rolling as they go on the road again.
