The Nature Coast Fishin’ Report: Shallow flats, rocky points are good spots to land redfish
Capt. Matt Cowden (727-534-6603): Capt. Matt says the very hot Gulf water has not bothered the snook, many of which are still on the outside beaches for the summer spawn. Redfish are beginning to move into the rivers and creeks along the coast. They’ll be looking for shade, so fishing under mangrove overhangs (or docks) is a good tactic, with fresh cut bait soaking on the bottom a good bait option. Scalloping continues on the shallow grass flats, with easy limits for those working the right spot out of Anclote. Capt. Matt says there are lots of big scallops this year. Big schools of jacks and bluefish have been around, and while these species are rarely invited home for dinner, they are great sport on light tackle.

Warped Tour inspired Sad Summer Fest. It’s coming back to Clearwater.
For 25 years, Warped Tour was a beloved summer tradition for musical misfits. Emo kids and pop-punk stans in melted eyeliner and skinny jeans moshed alongside hip-hop heads and metal lovers. But all good things — even the largest and longest running traveling music tour in America — must end.
Letter: More on airport noise
Re: Airport reservations (July 18) I think the upsides and downsides of co-existing with any major noisy facility — our local airport in this case — are never balanced, with the downsides usually prevailing because of the supposed financial contributions to the community. It's often a misleading argument to make, as shown by the quick and easy quotation of "$3 billion into the economy (about $44 million a year) since it opened in 1957." Who got the $3 billion and how much had to be spent, and by who, to get it? Has it cost $4 billion to get $3 billion? We don't know, do we. And never will. And who would care or act differently if that was the case? The full, real costs of growth are never measured. In this case particularly, property upgrades and devaluation in resale prices inflicted on homeowners would never be collected in the county's measurements.
